Sourdough torpedo

I have been trying out the sourdough recipes from The Bread Bible (Rose Levy Beranbaum) and had good results with the Basic Sourdough Bread and the Sourdough Rye.

Sourdough Rye

So I decided to be daring and tried using sourdough starter in the Tyrolean Ten-Grain Torpedo. I fed the starter and weighed out 9.75 ounces which I left out overnight. I followed the rest of the recipe as written except I reduced the yeast amount to 1/4 teaspoon. I had expected to have to tinker with it a bit but it came out great!

House Quilt

I have the top finished and am now quilting. I found the pattern, School House Quilt by Eddie Walker, at Stash quilt shop in Walla Walla. Though the pattern is a traditional type, Ms. Walker has an ingenious method for cutting out and sewing the blocks which makes it much easier than the old fashioned way. (She is a local quilter but the pattern lists her email as walker02@my180.net)

If you are in Walla Walla you need to visit Stash (myfabricstash.com) I could spend an enormous amount of time and money there and the people who helped me were wonderful. And grab a meal at Saffron Mediterranean Kitchen (saffronmediterraneankitchen.com). It is my favorite restaurant in this half of Washington. It is a good idea to get a reservation, at least at dinner time.
